Panasonic’s 2011 VIERA HDTV line up includes:

Full HD 3D Plasma and LCD-LED TVs

For 2011 Panasonic introduces three VIERA Full HD 3D Plasma model lines – the VT30 series, GT30 and ST30 series – and expands its 3D line-up with the addition of two LCD-LED HDTVs to the Full HD 3D array. Panasonic’s Full HD 3D televisions provide full 1080p resolution to both the right and left eye, thereby giving the viewer the definitive 3D entertainment experience.

Panasonic’s proprietary IPTV functionality is expanded and enhanced for 2011, with a new identifying name, VIERA Connect™1, reflecting the transition from the walled garden approach of VIERA Cast to the interactive and inter-connected philosophy behind the new Internet enabled service. VIERA Cast’s popular sites, including Netflix™, Amazon VOD™, You Tube™, Pandora, Twitter, Bloomberg News, a weather channel and Skype™ continue on VIERA Connect and are joined by a host of exciting features and apps, all optimized for the best possible user experience. Incorporated in VIERA Connect are such popular apps as Hulu Plus, Napster, CinemaNow, Facebook, and sports sites including MLB.TV, MLS Matchday Live, NBA Game Time, and NHL Game Center2.

The 2011 line-up also introduces Easy IPTV, which provides IPTV functionality to 12 select VIERA HDTVs by adding six of the most popular movie, music and social networking sites to the TV’s feature sets. Netflix™, Amazon VOD™, Napster, Pandora, CinemaNow and Facebook are available via Easy IPTV and give the consumer another option to experience an Internet enabled HDTV.

The VIERA VT30 series consists of two models- the 65-inch class (64. 7” measured diagonally) TC-P65VT30 and the 55-inch class (55.1” measured diagonally) TC-P55VT30. The VT30 models are distinguished by a one sheet glass design, giving the TVs a beautiful sleek new design element. In addition to providing 3D viewing, the VT30 series of Viera HDTVs includes the enhanced IPTV VIERA Connect service, featuring Skype video/voice calling.  VIERA Connect also provides USB connectivity, allowing for the addition of a wireless LAN adaptor, keyboard and USB memory.  In addition to the continuation of such favorite entertainment sites as Amazon Video-on-Demand. VIVAnews – Setelah 10 tahun ‘terlelap’ dalam tidur panjangnya, Matahari bangun. Bangkitnya Sang Surya membuat para astronom bersiaga penuh.

Minggu ini, beberapa media Amerika Serikat (AS) memberitakan, Badan Antariksa AS, NASA memperingatkan ‘tsunami Matahari’ yang menciptakan fenomena aurora — saat suar Matahari memukul perisai Bumi awal Agustus lalu, hanya permulaan.

Itu hanya awal dari badai Matahari masif yang berpotensi merusak jaringan listrik dan satelit di seluruh planet Bumi.

NASA telah menangkis semua pemberitaan itu dengan mengatakan, hal itu bisa terjadi ‘dalam waktu 100 tahun atau hanya 100 hari’. Namun astronom Australia mengatakan, komunitas ilmuwan luar angkasa bertaruh badai Matahari bisa datang lebih cepat. Continue reading »

Inilah 10 fenomena aneh yang menyeramkan yang terjadi di dunia. Meski ada banyak penjelasan tentang fenomena – fenomena aneh itu, namun semuanya masih belum bisa menjawab secara clear kenapa hal itu terjadi. Salah satu yang mengejutkan adalah terjadinya “Hujan darah di daerah Kerala, India pada September 2001?.
Anehnya setelah diteliti, air hujan berwarna merah itu mengandung partikel yang sama dengan yang ada pada darah. Aneh, ganjil, luar biasa. Bagaimana menjelaskan hal ini agar masuk akal? Apa yang terjadi pada dunia? Kenapa ada hujan berawarna merah, apa yang membuatnya begitu? Kasus lainnya adalah kisah nyata di sebuah daerah di Alaska yang sedikit penduduk. A new technique could be used to target advertising to users’ surroundings without their knowledge.

Using nothing more than the unique number assigned to every Internet connection, websites could determine whether you’re logging on at home, at work, or a travel location like an airport or hotel, researchers at Microsoft have shown. They say the technique could target advertisements more precisely—or improve the security of Web services by identifying users as legitimate according to their location.

Websites commonly use the numbers known as Internet protocol (IP) addresses to approximate the physical location of visitors (visit this site to see the location guessed from your IP address). The method, which is typically accurate to the level of a city, lets advertisers target people with local deals.

Until now, though, IP addresses have not been used to determine what kind of place the person is connecting from. Researchers at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley used a data set of IP addresses collected from logs of updates to an unnamed widely used software package and from log-ins to an unnamed popular webmail service. Tracking user locations by IP address could help advertisers sidestep suggested features of the “do not track” option that Congress is considering as a way to let people opt out of tracking by advertisers.

They first identified the IP address or addresses where each user most frequently logged in. Then they tagged any addresses more than 250 miles away from those as “travel.” Combining the logs for different users and looking at the timing of log-ins sharpened the labeling of IP addresses as either “home,” or residential connections, “work” locations such as offices, or “travel” locations from which many different users logged in when away from home. To make the results more robust, IP addresses were assigned to a particular category only if the records of the majority of people that had logged in there led to the same conclusion.

Verifying that the resulting database identified locations accurately would require following people around, but other clues suggest the method works. The software update data showed that over 90 percent of “travel” IP addresses were associated with laptop computers rather than desktops, while “home” IP addresses were equally likely to be a laptop or a desktop. Another test compared the logged IP addresses with a small public data set of nearly 4,000 known residential broadband IP addresses. Around 24 percent of the “home” IP addresses overlapped with that set, compared with just 0.4 of “travel” IP addresses.

Plasma screens are composed of thousands of tiny pockets of xenon and neon gas. These inert gasses emit ultraviolet particles when charged with electricity. While we can’t see the ultraviolet particles themselves, the particles react with phosphorous coating inside each cell, converting the energy to visible light. Because each cell produces light individually, instead of relying on a single backlight as in other television technologies, plasma screens are not prone to the uneven light distribution that plagues some low-end LCD TVs. Video compression: your friend and enemy

Video compression is clearly our friend because without a lot of compression we would have a very hard time handling the massive data we get from a 1080p video stream. Think of two mega pixels per frame at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second (translates to 48, 60 or even 120 mega pixels data per second). On the flip side, video compression reduces the possible image quality we can get. It is good to better understand how we deal with the implications of compressed data. It is kind of like the difference between Raw and JPEG images for still cameras, though with video the compression is a lot stronger. That said, it’s important to consider that when we watch a movie, the moving image is rarely analyzed as critically as still images

Overall video compression is about the trade-off between:

  • Data volume
    • Data storage needs
    • Data processing speed (in camera, on computer)
  • Image quality
